With Urmel on Ice on Cloud Nine – A Thrilling Experience at the Ice Hockey Championship

After successfully mastering a mandatory casting session in Cologne early December 2009, I was invited to a kick off meeting in the SAP Arena, located in the “Quadratestadt” – the nick name of the city of Mannheim, where this sports tournament took place. There, I was sufficiently briefed together with 9 other participants for the sector of press & media, my favorite field of application due to my personal inclination with regard to writing articles about the topic of ice hockey.

Upon arriving at this gigantic stadium encompassing about 13,000 spectators, I firstly had to acquire my necessary accreditation enabling access to such high level areas like Administration, Media Center, Mixed Zone, Radio & TV Area, Media Tribune and Volunteers Area; temporary upgrade badges even guaranteed entrance to the gym where I could closely walk by the skating heroes watching them at their daily work out.

My major areas of work ranged from information desk, mixed zone, press conference, runner, copy center and photographer support. Most of my time I spent at the info desk where I was in charge of providing vital statistics needed from the journalists working nearby in the press hall; there I always had to keep an eye on the completeness of all kinds of information required from the media hosts and press representatives. Two-high standard copy machines from Kyocera thankfully supported us volunteers in obtaining those papers in time and on time. It goes without saying that sometimes specific pieces of information had to be prepared immediately in order to keep the media machine running.

The positive side effect of working at the info desk, also called the “secret brain” of the games due to the incredible amount of data available there, was the perfect shift plan which made it possible for me to almost …

The Dan Harrington Poker Tournament System

Dan Harrington has written a book about poker in which he introduced a system for online poker tournaments. His book is called “Harrington on Hold’em, Volume II: The Endgame”. The system this book brings forward is called the Zone System and it basically splits up a tournament into various zones that depend on the stack of each player in comparison to the antes and the small and big blinds. You will enter a zone when you get the appropriate value to fit in it and you will play in each zone accordingly, applying different strategies for each and every one of them.

Harrington divided the players by a criteria based on comparing the amount of the money players have to the starting pot. So if you have $1500 and the blinds are $50/$100 and there are no antes required in this game then your money is equivalent to 10 times the starting pot. This value has been referred to by Harrington as the zone indicator and it has been abbreviated as “M”.

Zone 1 – Green Zone where M is 20 or more

Once you are in the green zone it means that you have sufficient money to play as you wish. This is mainly why it is called the green zone, because you can use any weapon, strategy or betting style you want. Here you must balance the way you play so that you will both protect and raise the amount of money you have in the stack. You can afford to play either tight or loose, whatever suits best your purposes.

Zone 2 – Yellow Zone where M is 11 – 19

Once you got here, it means you lost some money and you cannot play any more passively. You have to get aggressive with certain hands so …

The very pleasing scene of the zone was destroyed after the dragons both the blue and the black had their battle settling the zone as their graveyard. These dragons have their magic which was shattered on the wind that later falls on the trees and the rocks. On the latter end, a majestic blue dragged cast a potent spell to take the lives of the foes and shape it into stones.

The spell that was cast upon covers the whole Wrath of the Lich King Crystalsong Forest which turns the land and the rocks into wonderful crystals. The Emerald Dream also and its magic shades the Great tree from crystal evasion.

Wave Solitaire – A Guide To Playing

Do you like golf solitaire or corona solitaire?

If so, then you may like to check out wave solitaire, which combines elements of both games…

The aim of wave solitaire is to build 4 ascending suit sequences to the foundation stacks.

The game starts with 10 manoeuvre stacks, 4 foundation stacks, a talon, and a discard pile.

The cards in the manoeuvre zone are dealt out in a wave pattern, with 2 cards in the first stack, 5 in the next, then 2 again, etc. So the stacks are arranged like this…

2 5 2 5 2

5 2 5 2 5

Cards are moved to the manoeuvre zone as long as they are the same suit, and one less in rank(eg a 9 of diamonds can move onto a 10 of diamonds). This is similar to the rule used in corona solitaire.

A card can be moved from the talon to the discard pile at any time. All cards in the discard pile are visible, but only the top card can be played.

Cards can be moved to the discard pile regardless of suit, as long as they are 1 less or 1 more than the current card. This is similar to the rule used in golf solitaire.

When a manoeuvre column is empty, a card should be automatically moved from the discard pile. If the discard pile is empty, then a card is moved straight from the stock to fill the empty column.

The most important thing in regards to winning wave solitaire, is to look for any inversions. For example, suppose when the game is initially dealt, that one of the stacks looks like this:

  • 5 of Diamonds.
  • 6 of Diamonds.

This is an inversion. The 5 is needed to remove the 6, but the 5 can’t …

Why Are 2,000,000 Americans Playing Pickleball?

Why are 2,000,000 Americans playing pickleball? That’s the question I asked myself each time I rode past the tennis and pickleball courts in my new housing development at Arbor Creek in Southport, North Carolina. The first few weeks I was too busy unpacking boxes to join in the fun, but a friend (who plays twice a week) said, “Joe, you will love the game because you already love tennis, racquetball, and ping-pong.” She was right.

The game is a combo of all four activities. The paddle, made of graphite or wood, is larger than a ping-pong paddle, and shorter that a racquetball racquet. It’s lighter than a badminton racquet.

The court is rectangular, 20 feet wide, and 44 feet long. The “kitchen” is seven 7 feet long starting from the net and twenty feet wide. The kitchen is a safety where you cannot slam the ball in someone’s face. If the ball lands in the kitchen, you must let the ball bounce once to keep the volley going. Save face, pickleball. (Pun intended.)

The official pickleball court is a rectangle with dimensions equal to 20 feet wide by 44 feet long (inclusive of lines) for both singles and doubles. The non-volley line is the line on each side of the net between the sidelines and parallel to the net. These lines are located 7 feet from the net.

You must serve the ball beyond the kitchen and land in the boundaries of the rectangle to continue play. The server only gets one serve if the ball goes out of play. Then the second player on the same team serves. You can’t score unless you have the serve. We play 7 or 11 points win, and you have to win by 2 points.

Wiffle balls come in four color from yellow …

Power Up Your Bowling – Understand Your Brain

Today we are going to talk about your brain. A lot of people simply do not understand their brain fully and manipulate their brain to their advantage. People generally only understood that their brain weighs approximately 31 lbs, it is divided into two halfs, a right and a left, each half of the brain has different functions.

That’s all they know about their brain.

Do you know?

– Your mind reflects the physical brain and operates out of these two hemispheres.

– Your brain has four waves, Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta, and everything we do falls into one of these categories. We shifts from one state to another throughout our day.

– Flow Zone of Optimal Performance only exist when two halfs of our brain are balance, no distraction, no analysing and no anxiety.

Your Brain Mechanism

Your brain works on goal setting mechanism and you can think of it as a connection machine, it hardwires everything. The solid the concept is hardwired in your brain, the better you master the concept. Same thing as bowling, the better your brain hardwired your bowling skill with your mental strength, the easier you enter Flow Zone of Optimal Performance.

The brain sets goals, this is your right brain creativity function, it then breaks down the steps to achieve the goal, this is your left brain analytical and logical functions. Bowlers universally have the same goals, it is to bowl perfect game and to win as many tournaments as possible. The brain capture the goal then goes about working out how to achieve them.

The best bowler in the world might not necessarily the most physical talented, they do know how to manipulate their brain better though.

Left and Right Brain Dorminant Bowler

Let’s discuss how both right brain dominant or left …

Pee Wee Football Offensive Line Blocking Ideas

What is the most excellent style of blocking to for youth football players? An bigger number of coaches decide to learn a particular manner of blocking, like GOM, and are stunned when their offensive line has problems. Exact blocking rules like GOM (gap – on – man) seem excellent to teach youths, but what appears decent on paper, or in hypothesis just isn’t so in the actual world. A great number of coaches ignore the fact that if your opponent has stud players in different defensive line positions, your GOM blocking schemes may be lacking in usefulness. For illustrative purposes, let us assume the defensive nose guard on the defensive side is beating your offensive line center and rushing into in your backfield. Your scouting report will supply the information where the stud players on defense will be lining up. An exact rules blocking scheme like GOM has no substitute rules to account for a superior defender. Most likely you will need to double team this participant, and depending on which offensive lineman you use to double team, the remainder of your offensive line will be following rules that might permit some defenders to be unblocked.

A related coach from some other program asked us the following question, “We are toying with the idea of zone blocking our offensive line, and I understand a nice amount, enough to be threatening. I am the offensive line coach. I like the mentality of double-teaming on the strong side. What is the best way to have the players to realize who peels off to get the linebacker? You must be aware of what is happening away from the action? Are any offensive lineman required to block alone? When using the 5-3 defensive gameplan make sure all of the defensive lineman will be blocked? …

Makiwara Training – The Theory Behind Fists of Steel For Serious Punching Power

The theory of training for punching power using a makiwara board is that you are using your fists in such a way that you would naturally fight with them on the street.  There are no bag gloves in dark alleys and there are no pads when your personal space is invaded by an attacker.

The makiwara board will create a denser bone structure in your fists as well as create large callouses with long-term use.  With careful training, you can achieve iron-like fists unavailable with any other type of punching power training.

The idea behind the makiwara is not to bash your hands into bloody stumps and then expect them to be amazing weapons.  You can do a lot of damage with makiwara training if you are not careful, and you must ease into it and stop if you ever get an injury.

Starting slow and building up to higher intensities and repetitions is the name of the game. You can’t just start makiwara training and hope to have fists of steel in just a few days. Nonetheless, it is possible to achieve such results over time, and you can only get the ability with a makiwara.

The makiwara originated in Okinawa, Japan, the birthplace of karate. The karate practitioners were poor farmers that crated their makiwaras with parts that they had available to them.  In staying with tradition, it is quite possible to create your own makiwara even as a modern martial artist.

The makiwara can also help students of boxing as well as MMA and other martial arts.  Whenever there is punching involved, the makiwara will benefit your sport.

The makiwara is basically a flexible board mounted to the floor of your dojo or practice space, and traditionally has a slightly padded target.  The Okinawans used rice rope, but …
