Free Party Games For Children

Everyone knows that games are the highlight of the party. Most of the children go to parties because of the fun-filled games and prizes. Without games the children’s party probably wont have life.

Games in parties are usually free. You don’t have to spend some money for this kind of entertainment. That is because games don’t have to be expensive or fancy, they are merely for fun and amusement.

Barn Buddies

You whisper a name of one farm animal to each child. Make sure you also tell the same animal once to another child. Let each child know that there is another person that is similar to the farm animal given to him or her to act like. Throughout this party the children should ask to one another yes and no questions. They should eventually figure out who is the same animal as him or her.

After the party, let everyone sit down beside who they think is their “Barn Buddy”. If they got the wrong “Barn Buddy” review the clues with the children. As soon as everyone figures out the right buddy, let them sit again beside their “Farm Buddies”.

Fruit Basket

Form a circle with chairs. The chairs should be one less than the number of players. The person standing says,”I’m grateful for… (a characteristic, outfit or state of a person)” and every child with that characteristic stands up and scurries for another chair to sit on. While the children are searching for another chair, someone takes one chair away.

One child will have no chair to sit on and will have to be out of the game. The last person to be able to sit down will again say,” I’m gratefull for…” And this will be repeated until you wish to end the game.

The Importance of Color for Children

Color not only affects our moods, it can also promote learning and creativity. If I ever doubted that children are attracted to color, I soon learned otherwise at a recent craft show in Mt. Gretna, Pennsylvania. The children were drawn to the colorful hand painted rockers and tables and chairs that were on display. Many of them wanted to sit and play on the colorful chairs that were just their size. It has always been my belief that color is important when selecting items for children and the children themselves reinforced this idea.

Different colors promote different moods and mental creativity. Warm colors like red, orange and yellow all stimulate brain activity. Yellow is uplifting, like sunshine, and orange, which has a lot of yellow in it, promotes feelings of joy and vitality. Cool colors like green, blue and violet encourage relaxation, and surprisingly, pink is the color of tranquility. Green is also very soothing. It promotes harmony.

So what can a parent do to provide the mental stimulation that helps a young child learn and think creatively? Creative thinking leads to creative problem solving. Providing a colorful environment for your child can inspire creativity and learning. Colors are seductive. They stimulate the mind, help us relax and tempt us to think creatively. Choosing the colors for your child's environment should not be gender based. Boys sometimes need the tranquility of pink and girls love the many soft shades of blue. Colorful bedrooms, colorful toys and colorful furniture can all be used to increase intelligence.

When selecting the colors for your young ones, think about what color attracts them the most. What color does your child select when coloring a picture? How do they behave when they're in a warm sunny room, lazing on the soft green grass, or sitting …

Science Activity for Preschool Children: Flower Power

Science, this is one topic that I get the most emails about. So many early childhood educators, parents, and home child care providers draw a blank when it comes to programming for this area.

Here is a simple science activity the children will love. There are so many variations to this experiment, you could have science planned for an entire week.

Science does not have to be a difficult or scary subject to plan for. If you have read my other articles you will be familiar with the KISS method (Keep It Simple Silly) I use.

First I just want to very briefly talk about why science is so important to the developmental growth of children.

Science is important because it gives children the chance to freely explore the materials around them using all 5 of their senses (sight, touch, sound, taste, smell) depending on the science experiment planned.

For the science experiment in this article, the children will be able to use 4 of their senses, sight, touch, smell, and sound.

Flower Power: Science Experiment

What you will need:

3 white carnations
3 vases or tall glasses
red, blue, and green food coloring

What to do:

Fill each glass or vase half way with cool water. (Listen to the water pouring into the glass and ask open-ended questions like, "What sound does the water make when we pour it into the glass / vase?")

Color the water in each vase / glass a different color with food coloring. (Look at how the water changes colors. Ask open-ended questions like, "Do you think the water will darker or lighter when we add more drops of food coloring to it, and why?")

Pass the carnation around the table and have the children touch and smell it. (How does it feel? …
